About this service

Many basic tests are run right in the clinic, on the day of the visit. We do not send samples away and wait for days, which matters enormously in acute cases.

The laboratory covers haematology, blood and urine biochemistry, parasitology (including blood parasites) and the diagnosis of skin conditions.

What it includes

Blood tests

  • Complete blood count: 15 parameters
  • Biochemistry: ALT, AST, total bilirubin, urea, creatinine, alpha-amylase, pancreatic amylase, triglycerides, cholesterol, glucose, alkaline phosphatase, potassium, uric acid, creatine kinase
  • Blood smear for babesiosis (piroplasmosis)
  • Heartworm (dirofilariasis) diagnosis
  • Rabies antibody titre blood test

Urine

  • Urine biochemistry
  • Sampling by cystocentesis when needed

Parasitology and skin

  • Faecal test: worms and protozoa
  • Skin scraping: skin parasites
  • Dermatophyte diagnosis
  • Bacterial culture

When tests are needed

  • Yearly check-up, especially after the age of 7
  • Before anaesthesia and surgery
  • A lethargic pet with no appetite
  • Excessive thirst and urination
  • Monitoring chronic conditions: kidneys, liver, diabetes
  • After a tick bite (risk of babesiosis)

From our clinic

Frequently asked questions

Should my pet fast before blood tests?

For biochemistry, ideally 8–12 hours without food; water is fine. For young animals and emergencies, tests can be done at any time.

How long do results take?

Many basic tests are ready the same day. Bacterial cultures take longer; we will tell you when we take the sample.

How do I bring a urine or stool sample?

In a sterile container (from a pharmacy). The sample should be fresh, collected no more than a few hours beforehand.
